Abstract

Islam is a guide to all aspects of this world, including politics. Islam is not rigid in its politics but gives room for how the Shari'ah guides it. So that in the scope of Islam it is natural to have a concept in the realm of politics, especially leadership or governance. Two terms that cannot be separated from this concept are Imamate and Caliphate. Both the Imamate and the Caliphate demand Islamic leadership. The author tries to explore these two terms by looking at them from the perspective of the characters who represent them. Like the imamate which is closer to the Shi'a sect and khilafah which is more universal in use to any sect, more particular to the Sunni and thus how they argue it. These two groups will fuel the lengthy discussion of this discourse.
